Suneeta Sambhrama–ShakespearinigeNamaskara

Dr. H S Venkatesha Murthy has directed a powerful programme on Shakespeare’s Sonnets and their Kannada connection, for the Ranga Shankara Theatre Fest ’12. The hour-long programme co-directed by Prathibha Nandakumar is scheduled for Thu, 01 Nov ’12, at 6 PM. Admission is free. The Bard’s Kannada connection is explored through various forms in which a Sonnet can be presented.

Eminent poets and theatre personalities such as Dr. H S Venkatesha Murthy, Dr. B R Lakshmana Rao, G K Govinda Rao, Yogaraj Bhat, and Prathibha Nandakumar recite the Sonnets and also share their thoughts on why the chosen Sonnets resonate with them. M D Pallavi and Vikas Negiloni render Sonnets as songs.

Shakespeare came to Kannada one hundred years ago and inspired generations of poets. His sonnets started a trend in Kannada, and inspired many a great poet.
